Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii, October 15, 2012… Kona Brewing Company is bringing two bronze medals home to Hawaii from this weekend’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO. Longboard Island Lager and Black Sand Porter were awarded bronze medals at the Festival. Placing third in the Munich-Style Helles category, Longboard Island Lager is the brewery’s flagship beer and is available in 31 states in bottles, cans and on draught.
The beer was awarded a gold medal earlier this year by NABA (North American Brewers Association) and a silver medal from GABF in 2010. Similarly, Black Sand Porter was awarded a bronze out of 62 entries in the Robust Porter category. This specialty porter is served only on draught in Hawaii and has a bittersweet chocolate flavor.
“I’m honored that our Liquid Aloha is recognized by GABF’s panel of judges as standouts among the field of great craft beers from around the country,” said Kona Brewing president Mattson Davis. “I’m very proud of our brewers and this dual bronze from GABF is a testament to the passion they have for their craft.”

About Kona Brewing
Kona Brewing Company was started in the spring of 1994 by father and son team Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa, who had a dream to create fresh, local island brews made with spirit, passion and quality. It is a Hawaii-born and Hawaii-based craft brewery that prides itself on brewing the freshest beer of exceptional quality, closest to market. This helps to minimize its carbon footprint by reducing shipping of raw materials, finished beer and wasteful packaging materials. The brewery is headquartered where it began, in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island. It has grown into Hawaii’s largest brewery, has three restaurant sites in Hawaii and beer distribution reaching 31 states and Japan. It is the 13th largest craft brewery in the country.
