The 2015 NFL regular-season schedule will feature 19 Super Bowl rematches as part of the year-long celebration of Super Bowl 50, which will be played on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
A few examples of teams celebrating Super Bowl rematches this season:
On Monday Night Football in Week 3, the Green Bay Packers will celebrate Super Bowl I against Kansas City with local events and a halftime ceremony.
The Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl XXXII team will be honored in Week 8 against Green Bay as owner PAT BOWLEN will be inducted into the club’s Ring of Fame.
In Week 15, the San Francisco 49ers will bring back their 1981 defensive line and their 1988 players to celebrate their Super Bowl XVI and XXIII teams.
Many teams will also host Super Bowl Homecomings to commemorate the past 49 Super Bowls. The NFL’s Homecoming platform highlights the accomplishments and contributions of NFL greats and celebrates dedicated fans. Homecomings invite members of Super Bowl teams to be honored in-stadium on gameday and throughout the weekend. Teams will commemorate Homecomings with Ring of Honor/Hall of Fame ceremonies, recognizing Super Bowl players as honorary captains and featuring special halftime celebrations. A look at a few teams’ Homecoming events this season:
On the first Thursday Night Football game of the season in Week 2, the Kansas City Chiefs will honor their Super Bowl I & IV teams. Both teams will be celebrated on the field during pregame, player introductions and halftime with highlights and memories from both Super Bowls. The teams will also participate in local charity and community events during the week of the game.
For their first home game in Week 2 against Atlanta, the New York Giants will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Super Bowl XXV team. Players from that team will celebrate with private and fan-facing events, complete with pregame and halftime celebrations that will include Pro Football Hall of Famer BILL PARCELLS.
The Minnesota Vikings will welcome back 11 players who participated in four Super Bowls for the club. Leading into the Vikings Week 6 matchup against Kansas City, the club will host several fan and community engagement events with these alumni players.
Historic Super Bowl marks, customized Homecoming assets and dedicated elements commemorating past Super Bowls, will be included in the weekends.
Rematches and Homecomings are part of the NFL’s On The Fifty platform, designed to link the past 49 Super Bowls with this year’s game and honor the teams, players, coaches, fans and communities that have been a part of those games.

Week 1 against Indianapolis will be a Super Bowl Championship Homecoming celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1964-65 AFL Championship Team. New York Giants | For their first home game in Week 2 against Atlanta, the New York Giants will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Super Bowl XXV team. New York Jets | The New York Jets will celebrate their Super Bowl III team and host their Homecoming in Week 12 against Miami. Oakland Raiders | For their Week 1 home opener, the Oakland Raiders will honor all five Raiders Legends who were in all three Raiders Super Bowl appearances (II, XI, XVII). During halftime, the Raiders will honor the late KEN STABLER. In Week 10, the Raiders will celebrate Super Bowl XI with honorary captains from that team, highlights from the game, and a special appearance byFRED BILETNIKOFF. In Week 13, the Raiders will have a ceremony for TIM BROWN to receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring. RON WOLF will be recognized during the Raiders Week 15 matchup. Philadelphia Eagles | During the preseason, the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated Homecoming at an open practice at their stadium, open to 20,000-30,000 people. Throughout the season, members of the Eagles Super Bowl appearing teams will be recognized as part of their honorary captain series. |
Pittsburgh Steelers | The Pittsburgh Steelers will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their Super Bowl XL team by bringing back 25-35 players from this team. The alumni players will participate in events the night before the game, as well as pregame and halftime presentation with individual player introductions in-stadium. |
St. Louis Rams | In Week 15 against Tampa Bay, the St. Louis Rams will celebrate Super Bowl XXXIV. The team will recreate “The Catch” by RICKY PROEHL during the 1999 NFC Championship Game and will have in-stadium activations for fans. |
San Diego Chargers | LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON will be inducted into the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame in Week 11 against Kansas City as part of the Chargers Homecoming celebration. |
San Francisco 49ers | CHARLES HALEY will be featured as part of the San Francisco 49ers Homecoming celebration in Week 1 against Minnesota. Following Haley’s induction into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., 49ers Hall of Fame on Saturday night, he will receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring on Sunday. In Week 15, the 49ers will be honoring their Super Bowl XVI & XXIII teams. The team will bring back the 1981 defensive line from the famous goal-line stand and the 1988 players from the final drive and John Taylor touchdown reception. The players will be introduced during pregame, and at halftime, the team will bring the Lombardi trophies to each end zone and air accompanying Super Bowl moment highlight reels. |
Seattle Seahawks | The Seattle Seahawks are celebrating their 40th Anniversary during the 2015 season. They plan to bring back NFL Legends from their 1976 to 2014 teams throughout the season to serve as honorary captains with in-stadium features and celebrations. The Seahawks will honor players in a traditional Homecoming during Week 3 vs. the Chicago Bears. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will induct two players, MIKE ALSTOTT and DOUG WILLIAMS, into their Ring of Honor as part of their Homecoming. Alstott will be inducted in Week 4 against Carolina and Williams in Week 13 against Atlanta. |

Washington Redskins | The Washington Redskins will celebrate Homecoming across three weeks in their 2015 season. In Week 1, they will bring back JOE THEISMANN as an honorary captain.
