If you have played a Marshall cabinet, you likely have played through a Celestion G12T-75. You will typically find these speakers in 4×12, 300-watt cabinets or 2×12 150 watt counterparts. These speakers can be pushed hard by an amplifier while still delivering a great range of tones.
The speakers, even when being pushed, deliver a massive low-end while never getting boomy or woofy. Those of you who play hard rock or chuggy metal will considerably benefit from these speakers. While the low-end is intact, the mids and the highs do not suffer. They benefit.
Us guitar players live in our mids, sometimes scooped or boosted; our mids are the key to our tone. The Celestion G12T-75 responds well to either application. The mids bark, dare I saw growl. The frequency range of the Celestion G12T-75 is 80-5000Hz, giving you a wide sonic pallet to pump out at huge volumes.
So with all of this focus on low-end and mids, will our highs suffer? Absolutely not. Shred kings Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani are both devotees of the Celestion G12T-75. Celestion describes the highs as “softened top-end that adds a welcome sweetness to overdrive distortion alongside aggressive upper harmonics.” I couldn’t have explained that better myself.
If you are looking for a workhorse of a hard rock or metal speaker, the Celestion G12T-75 is an excellent choice. The 97dB sensitivity in this speaker gives excellent tactile feedback and an incredible feeling of control—Available in 8 and 16-ohm options, this speaker can fit most applications.
