NFL Talk - 2008
Well, the only way to stop that kind of hit is to say that you can't make a play when you're on the ground.
Will it blend? That is the question.

I would agree. That was the only play that Pollard could have made... while he was either being held or pushed into the QB by the blocker.

He was battling that entire play. It was unfortunate for Brady, but Pollard worked his ass off to get there.

They just announced Brady is done for the year

I get it, I am very aware what the game is and what its about. But the rules are the rules and it goes for whoever the hell your team is. Destroying a persons career or knocking them out for a season should not be what sports are about - doesn't make you more of a man or team player - just an another asshole in my eyes.

He took a DIRECT HIT ON HIS KNEE

4. No defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction.

I would argue that the blocker restricted his path. If it's a free rush to the QB and a guy dives for his knee, suspend him for the year.

With the guy scrambling on the ground as much as he did, I just can't see it was a deliberate intent to take his knee out.

And what happened the last time the starter for the Patriots went down for the season. Some backup came in and won the Super Bowl. Patriots are still a dangerous team.

And one more comment...those pants Brady was wearing have a place for knee pads. They may not have prevented this injury. But, if these players think it improves their play not to wear all the protective equipment available, then they have to accept the extra risk they subject their bodies too.
Will it blend? That is the question.

I wouldn't count the Pats out yet either. They have too much talent on the Offensive side of the ball. But it will definately be a struggle for them. Chiefs almost won that game at the end.
