Proteus build thread (uber-tele)

I have an 80 grit flapwheel. it's ok.

If this was alder, it'd eat through the wood like cake. But this is northern ash, and is noticeably harder. Much harder on all my tools. Even my handheld rasp's teeth showed a good amount of wear after I was done shaping the tummy cut.

Flapwheels are good things , discovered those when I did custom cabinets. Just take your time and if you are going to try a new technique practice first. You can't put wood back once you sand it off.

My wife got me this mini belt sander a few years back. It has a rounded nose which is great for getting in tight curved areas. For arm rests i cut the majority off with a handsaw and then finish with rasps.

Sweet. Can I borrow your wife Raph?

kidding aside, I got my rotary rasps in today and started carving the top. They are making light work of what would've been a very arduous task with just hand tools. It's still slow, and a bit of a pain in the ass doing it like this instead of the LP method with the stepped/templated carve profiles, but screw it. Ain't got the resources to perfect a template carvetop like that.

I'm gonna do as much as I can today and tomorrow and then post some pics of the progress before I try to finish the rough shaping over the weekend.

Control plate recess is done. Gonna have to blend in the edges nicely so it looks fuckin sexy instead of like a cliff drop.

Also this is my progress on the carve from yesterday. Havn't done any more today, yet. Looks like shit i know but it'll look nice eventually.

Also get a load of this. I went to the music store to grab some sets of strings and came across this presumably ash strat. With a weird paint job. The grain actually seems to be sunken in somehow! Wonder how they did that.

Bit of progress on the carve. It's coming together nicely. Still a lot of work to do. I think i'm gonna call it a day though, and do some math homework.

Don't worry. I have the whole carve mapped out it my head. Just a matter of removing the excess wood. It'll look friggin awesome when it's done, I assure you.

been a bit busy lately so i haven't had much time to put towards this. The other day I laminated the two main crossmembers of the pedalboard build. Still planning a lot of the stuff that's gonna go on it, but the wood is pine and oak. I'm using maple for the feet. I don't have pics yet. I'll do that later.

today i did a tiny bit more on the carve. And then spent several hours redrawing lines on the body for the carve top.

I think I have it like 99% there.

Also here's my solution for the carve getting in the way of the jack hole

Still need to clean up and finalize that.
