Joseph Lozito is out of the hospital on Monday morning and recovering from stab wounds to the face after fighting off 23-year-old Maksim Gelman, then helping cops take him down.

New York City police say Gelman hacked three people to death, then stalked the city for more than a day, attacking innocent strangers, hijacking vehicles and killing a pedestrian with a car.

Lozito came face-to-face with Gelman Saturday on board a packed subway train.

Gelman threatened Lozito, but the mixed-martial-arts buff fought back.
