Matt Turk: American Preservation

Posted by Joe Viglione On March - 4 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

This is an interesting left turn for Matt Turk, a countrified modern-ish Americana album of cover tunes that cover a wide spectrum and diverse musical field. Turk’s voice lends itself well to these journeys, some obscure, some very popular at one point in time. Opening up with John Denver’s “Thank God I’m A Country Boy” gives the song authenticity that this writer felt the over-exposed John Denver lost along the way…”Lovin’ In My Baby’s Eyes” works better for me than that…and run-throughs of “Bang A Gong (Get It On)” or the sublime Rolling Stones country moment, “Sweet Virginia”. This morning, Howard Stern orchestrated yet another historic moment in radio history as he hosted the Charlie Sheen Pornstar Pageant. The only requirement for contestants is that they had a previous “relationship” with current media sensation Charlie Sheen. In the Howard Stern SiriusXM Studios to compete were Casey Jordan, Capri Andersen and Melanie Rios. Charlie has not officially endorsed the pageant, but he did call into the show earlier in the week.

Kacey (not K.C.) Jordan, the only contestant who was previously on the Stern Show, led off the pageant. Kacey had some pretty shocking revelations in her previous appearance on the show, and had some new bombshells today. The biggest piece of gossip was that she recently had an abortion and it was possibly/probably Charlie Sheen’s baby. She informed Howard that she recently had sex for the first time after the abortion after a several-week layoff. Gary chimed in that she had not been abstaining from anal sex during the healing time, and Kacey confirmed that she had being going crazy with the other hole during this time frame. Choosing The Best Protein for Muscle Building

Posted by Dominick Walsh On February - 27 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

You basically can’t grow muscle without taking whey protein after workouts but that doesn’t mean that whey can’t be better. Slow-digesting casein protein was once believed to have no place around workout time, but newer research suggests otherwise.

In fact, a study from Baylor University (Waco, Texas) reported that men who consumed a whey/casein blend protein shake after workouts for 10 weeks gained significantly more muscle mass than the subjects who consumed a whey protein shake without casein.Try using a protein Like Intek Evolution or Pro Complete 40 both of which combine whey and casein in an ideal blend. Posted by Jonah Falcon On February - 26 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Here we go again, folks. Another countdown has popped up, much like Bethesda’s countdown to the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim reveal trailer. This one, however, is at a site called findmakarov.com, which industry writers were directed to from a set of dog tags sent to them by Activision.

Makarov, as you may remember, was the villain of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The countdown hits zero a few days from now, so will we be seeing the first details and possibly video of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? Probably – it’ll be interesting to see who the developer is. Read the rest of this entry »

10 Worst Videogame Television Ads Of All Time

Posted by Jonah Falcon On February - 23 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Over the past thirty-five years, I’ve seen a lot of television, and by extension, a lot of television ads. Since I was an avid gamer since I was a tot in 1975, the videogame ads stood out to me. Well, those and the perfume ads, which were and still are as close as I will ever get to getting high on LSD – one ad in particular hypnotized me as a college student every time it came on. It was like a snake mesmerizing a bird. I simply stopped everything I was doing and just stared at it.

Getting back to videogame ads, I’ve seen a lot of them. I’ve seen good, and I’ve seen bad, and I’ve decided to make a “Top 10″ list of the best and the worst videogame ads. There are some restrictions, of course – these actually have to have appeared on TV. While that might be easy for games and systems released before the internet exploded, the recent ones have to have actually aired on TV. Read the rest of this entry »

Protein High in Leucine Can Elevate Protein Synthesis

Posted by Dominick Walsh On February - 17 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The importance of leucine, one of the branched-chain amino acids, continues to emerge.

Researchers from the University of Illinois examined the impact of meals containing different amounts of leucine on the time course and magnitude of muscle protein synthesis. In the first set of experiments, it was shown that ingestion of a meal containing 20% of whey protein resulted in peak blood leucine levels after 45 minutes, and they stayed elevated for 180 minutes after ingestion. Leucine levels in the blood were correlated with the activation of key elements in muscle that stimulate protein synthesis. When leucine was highest, muscle protein synthesis peaked, and when leucine dropped to normal levels, protein synthesis decreased. Read the rest of this entry »

The world of social networking reached a new level recently as Howard Stern finally succumbed to starting his own Twitter account. The Sirius XM radio god swore for months that he would never open an account, and even mocked the idea and fellow celebs for doing so. He relented just prior to the Super Bowl and now the man cannot be stopped.

Most recently, during an HBO broadcast of his biopic Private Parts, Stern tweeted a running commentary throughout the film, giving followers never before heard (read?) insights about the movie and production process. Yes, the shock jock broke some new ground again, pushing the boundaries of another form of media. Read the rest of this entry »

Even though it may be a bogus gesture under the NEXT collective bargaining agreement, six teams have already placed the franchise tag on some of their big-name players. Three other teams have pretty much guaranteed that they will be applying their tags soon.

The following player have received the “franchise tag” by their respective teams:
Michael Vick – Philadelphia Eagles; Peyton Manning – Indianapolis Colts; Haloti Ngata – Baltimore Ravens; David Harris – New York Jets; Logan Mankins – New England Patriots (non-exclusive); Vincent Jackson – San Diego Chargers (non-exclusive). Read the rest of this entry »

The appearance of Crysis 2 isn’t the first time Crytek was burned by piracy. In fact, it wasn’t the first game in the Crysis series that was pirated.

Back in 2007, Crysis was released on Torrent sites, which Crytek reported severely cripped sales on the game. Crytek president Cevat Yerli later stated:

“We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC gaming, piracy.” Read the rest of this entry »
