Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale Second in the World

76944123Alltech’s Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale smelled sweet success when it was awarded the Silver Medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup this weekend. This year’s competition was named the largest commercial beer competition in the world. The World Beer Cup is a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today. With over 3,000 beers, 642 breweries, 44 countries and 47 states, this event is truly the “Olympics of Beer”. Awards were presented this weekend at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, Illinois.

“Brewers from around the globe participate in the World Beer Cup to win recognition for their creativity and brewing ability,” said Charlie Papazian, president of the Brewers Association, the U.S.-based trade association that has put on the competition every two years since 1996. World Beer Cup 2010 winners were selected by an international panel of 179 beer judges from 27 countries. More than 3,800 breweries in 100 countries were invited to compete.

“Bourbon is unique to Kentucky and beer is unique to Alltech, combining these two was a logical combination and now we also know the world thinks the same”, said Dr. Pearse Lyons, President and Founder of Alltech. “This couldn’t come at a more perfect time, as Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games coming to Kentucky from September 25 to October 10, 2010.”
