The Carolina Panthers, via their official NFL website, have announced that their first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Star Lotulelei signed his contract and is now officially on the team. The Panthers selected Lotulelei with the 14th overall pick. Star is a defensive tackle from Utah who the Panthers hope will make an immediate impact on defense. Star Lotulelei signed on Thursday.
Carolina has signed all but two of their 2013 Draft picks, but it sounds like they will soon follow Lotulelei and guard Edmund Kugbila, who also signed on Thursday.
Star is only the fourth first round draft pick from the 2013 NFL Draft who has signed with his team. The previous three were Kyle Long (20 – Chicago Bears), Kenny Vaccaro (15 – New Orleans Saints) and Ziggy Ansah (5 – Detroit Lions).
The terms of Lotulelei’s contract have not been disclosed yet, but it is a four-year deal with a fifth-year team option… typical under the new collective bargaining agreement.
The biggest news of the day is learning that there is actually someone in this world named Star Lotulelei!
