Traditionally we find ourselves pairing a great cigar with a great Scotch. While this combination works there is no better pairing for a great cigar than a great beer. The other night I found myself with a Macanudo Maduro in one hand, a snifter of great beer in the other.
Maduro cigars are very rich in flavor. Macanudo has been able to produce a Maduro that is full flavored and rich yet smooth ad creamy. The Macanudo Maduro is medium body with caramel tones in the flavor. The wrappers of these cigars and from Cuban and Dominican seed tobacco that is double fermented.
These Connecticut broad leaf wrappers give a perfect even burn. I never needed to relight or resuscitate the cigar.
I matched the Macanudo Maduro with a Samuel Adams Imperial Stout from Boston Brewing Company’s Imperial Series. The Sam Adams is full bodied and rich mimicking the cigar. The roasted grain plays off of the smoke perfectly. The Imperial Stout has great chocolate and coffee aromas with a touch of anise and a sweet malt finish.
The sweetness of the malt plays off of the sweetness of the Macanudo perfectly. This is heaven talk about a perfect match. Yet another great match with Macanudo is Playboy.
