The Death of Comedian Greg Giraldo May Signal a New Howard Stern Curse

By now, all Howard Stern Show fans know about the Stern Vacation Death Curse. If you are not familiar with it, most times the Howard Stern Show is on vacation, a celebrity, or multiple celebrities die. The most recent edition of the curse was the triple-shock of Gary Coleman, Dennis Hopper and Rue McClanahan.

Recently, there appears to be a new Stern-related trend… or should I say, curse. Stand-up comedians with strong connections to the Howard Stern show are running into some bad luck, and in some cases, death.

The most recent event is the death of comedian Greg Giraldo, who has made several appearance on the Howard Stern Show and even participated in the Stern Show Staff Roast of Gary Dell’abate. Howard spoke about Greg this morning on the show and how his death was attributed to an overdose of prescription drugs. It does not appear that his death was a suicide. He also played some clips of Greg and mentioned how bummed out he was and that Greg had 4 children.

We don’t have to go back very far to find another victim of the Stern stand-up curse… comedian Robert “Bob” Schimmel met his demise earlier this month in a car accident. Bob had been a fairly regular guest on the show and Howard had even worked with him in the past on a TV show deal that fell through.

If you are a regular Stern fan, then you know the Artie Lange ordeal all to well. Artie attempted suicide back in December of 2009 and is just now getting on his feet again.

Greg Fitzsimmons, Lisa Lampanelli and Gilbert Gottfried… you better watch your asses!

As for Greg Giraldo, condolences can be left on his Facebook Page. Greg was a judge on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” during season 7 and was the headliner on Comedy Central’s Indecision ’08 Tour. The following Clip was from the Gary Roast:

There aren’t enough funny people in the world. RIP, Greg.
