Al Davis: Raiders Owner and Football Legend Dead at 82

The Oakland Raiders website posted the birth and death dates of owner Al Davis roughly 20 minutes ago. There is no cause of death noted as of yet. Al Davis was one of the most colorful figures in the history of the game.

Al Davis was respected by his contemporaries for his vast knowledge of the game of football. He gave the city of Oakland 5 championship titles and 3 Superbowl wins with the Raiders. Al Davis is also the architect of the West Coast offence that is now used coast to coast in the NFL and has also been adapted to other sports.

Wikipedia is reporting Former Raiders quarterback, Ken Stabler, will give his eulogy. This tell us that Al Davis must have been battling some ailment and his death was not a surprise. This has been a rough week for the left coast with tech pioneer Steve Jobs passing earlier in the week and now the passing of a cornerstone of the NFL.

This make the 2nd passing of a NFL team owner this season. In July the Patriots organization lost team matriarch Myra Nathalie Hiatt Kraft, wife of Robet Kraft.
