Review: The Rolling Stones – Some Girls Live In Texas DVD

Posted by Joe Viglione On February - 11 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Better lit than 1972’s Ladies & Gentlemen The Rolling Stones, that DVD filmed over four nights in Texas during 1972’s “Exile on Main Street” tour, this “Some Girls Live” is from a Fort Worth, Texas from July 18, 1978. The two projects – with 6 years between them – provide a Texas-twosome of Stones performances that make for good analysis…as well as the general good old time we expect from Mick & the boys.

“All Down the Line” is a nice enough kick-off, a slowed-down “Honky Tonk Women” exquisite for the musicianship and nice mix in the headphones, though one wonders if Mick Jagger’s pantomimes will survive the centuries as future historians look back into these time capsules. Perhaps I spoke too soon here as the nasty and vindictive side of Mick has him beaming with malevolence on the very next track. Read the rest of this entry »

This could not be a better week for these two beers to come across my desk. New Belgium Brewing’s Lips of Faith are the perfect beers for Valentine’s Day. Typically, I would not suggest buying your beloved beers on this holiday. In this case, you are safe coming home beer in tow.

The first of this release Biere de Mars is a Bière de Garde. The ale pours a cloudy orange color with a fluffy white head. Biere de Mars has a citrus driven aroma, a perfect fireplace sipper with wonderful citrus and spicy aromas. The dryness of the beer and the funk of the wild yeast give this beer an almost vinous quality to it. You will definitely pick up caramel and cinnamon esters in the nose of this beer. Cinnamon has been shown to increase sex drive it is a natural aphrodisiac.  How can you go wrong with this beer?  Read the rest of this entry »

By now we are sure you have heard about the impending nuptials of Tom Brady’s little sister Julie Brady to Boston Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkilis. It is nice to see someone in the Brady family doing the marriage thing before having kids for once.

One can expect that the guest list to this wedding will read like a who’s who of Boston sports legends. One iconic Boston sports legend that will be working double duty at the wedding we hear is New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Read the rest of this entry »

Las Vegas is known for many things. When it comes to food, Vegas was best known for its endless buffets. These culinary cattle-lines were designed to keep the gamblers moving, in hopes of getting them back to the tables as quickly as possible. Despite these endless buffets, a diner can find a great meal in Las Vegas among the seas of slot machines and neon. A good place to start is Old Homestead in Caesar’s Palace.

Brothers Marc and Greg Sherry, whose family has been involved with the New York and New Jersey operation of this famed restaurant, were hands on in all aspects of the Old Homestead Las Vegas launch. The Sherry’s meticulously select every vendor to insure that the diner is getting freshest, quality ingredients possible. Read the rest of this entry »

Sud Savant: Brrr Fest 2011

Posted by Joel R. Kolander On February - 11 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

This past Saturday was the inaugural Brrr Fest in Coralville, IA, future home of Backpocket Brewing, and I had absolute blast. The fact that this festival was indoors in no way dampened its spirit nor the spirits of those attending. There was great craft beer to be had from all over the Midwest and plenty of new breweries that had been unknown to me until this day. I love discovering new beers! Let’s get started, shall we? Wait! First we should make our pretzel necklaces. Read the rest of this entry »

Pope Crisco: Cigar Review – CAO OSA Sol Lot 58

Posted by Pope Crisco On February - 11 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Hola, smokers of the leaf. It’s Super Bowl Sunday for most people, but for myself, it’s just Sunday. Instead of obsessing over grown men chasing and jumping atop the carrier of a ball, I would rather see men chase a small piece of rubber while ice skating and, in frustration, pummel bodies against bodies, and fists against faces. It’s not that football can’t be exciting; it’s just not my brand of obsession. (Ironically, I have a fair amount of obsession regarding old NFL films summarizing past Super Bowls.) id Software’s First Person Shooter Rage Hits Mac OS (Trailer)

Posted by TMR Newswire On February - 11 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

id Software’s heavily hyped Rage was somewhat of a letdown, but still is a solid shooter experience. Now, Mac users can check it out.

According to GameSpot:

The Rage: Campaign Edition includes the entire campaign from October’s shooter, Anarchy Edition content (weapons, buggy, and armor), and the Wasteland Sewer missions, which were new purchase incentives for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.

The game is available in English, French, and German through Apple’s Mac App Store, publisher Aspyr’s proprietary store Game Agent, and “other” Mac digital distribution outlets. Read the rest of this entry »

GameStop Selling Vita Games Pre-Launch

Posted by Jonah Falcon On February - 11 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Not only has GameStop started demoing PlayStation Vitas in-store, allowing gamers to get them in their hands and try it out, but they’ve also started selling games pre-launch.

According to Wanderson75:

According to an unnamed source at Gamestop, employees have just received a corporate email stating that consumers can now head up to your local Gamestop and begin purchasing first-party Vita titles right now! Of course, you still can’t buy the PlayStation Vita until the 15th if you purchased the early bundle, or the 22nd if you purchased the normal bundle. But at least you won’t have to worry about your game being in Read the rest of this entry »

TMR Zoo Works Out the 2013 Lexus GS at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Posted by Steve Tomassetti On February - 7 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Bruce and I have received quite a few perks from running this site over the years, but nothing has even come close to what we were treated to during this past Super Bowl weekend. Imagine being able to test-drive one of the top names in luxury vehicles, on a closed track, with a professional race car driver… in Las Vegas.

The happening was the 2013 Lexus GS Event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and it was the ultimate treat. We spent the day beating the hell out different models of the ’13 GS… and they kept taking whatever we dished out and then asked for more. Well, it was the professional drivers assisting us that were urging us to push the vehicles. Its not every day you hear someone tell you to hit the corners harder in a Lexus. Music Review: ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ The Return of Van Halen

Posted by Guest Contributor On February - 7 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Yes, that’s Van Halen. Not to be confused with the Van Hagar version of the band that clogged the 90′s with prom themes and mediocrity but the real deal.: The full-throttle, David Lee Roth led sonic explosion that fans have been waiting for since 1984. For the first time in 28 years (save a couple of throwaway tracks on a compilation) Eddie and Alex Van Halen have managed to get along with Roth long enough to produce a staggering return to form. It is a throwback to their classic sound and swagger and a welcome respite from a lot of generic pop tarts and emo bands currently on the airwaves. But is it any good? Departed vocalist Sammy Hagar, in his autobiography, painted Eddie Van Halen as a cash-strapped drunk who could barely stand, never mind play. So is this just a calculated cash-grab by the brothers VH or simply a bunch of old friends re-discovering their love of basic, balls-to-the-wall heavy rock? Let’s check the Scorecard: Read the rest of this entry »

“Today’s the day, everything changes, one way or another” sayeth actor Sam Worthington as disgraced cop Nick Cassidy in the trailer to Man on a Ledge…and it sounds very much like his Jake Sully character at the end of Avatar speaking his final words before becoming one with his mask. If the plot seems suspiciously like Samuel L. Jackson’s disgraced cop taking hostages in 1998′s The Negotiatior, you are correct…that’s almost exactly the story here. Both films are set up in a high rise, the perp chooses – actually demands – which person will “negotiate” before he makes good on his threat – in Samuel Jackson’s case – to kill hostages; in Sam Worthington’s case, to jump off the ledge, and both movies have that bank robbery drama that worked so well for Spike Lee’s Inside Man. Arguably one of today’s best Two-Way Forwards, Patrice Bergeron will be watching Sunday’s NHL All-Star game from home. While I’m sure Patrice appreciates the R&R, he most certainly deserves to be a part of this year’s game. He has been the most consistent player for the Boston Bruins this year on both sides of the puck and, in some circles, is considered the reason why the Bruins’ second line has been so fluid and one of the most feared lines in the NHL this season.

Not only has Bergeron been the constant driving force behind the Bruins play, he has also played a huge role in the development of young gun Tyler Seguin and the pestering, energetically charged Brad Marchand. I don’t believe there is a better player to mold your game around east of Detroit Michigan (Pavel Datsyuk comes to mind). He has helped get them both settled into their current roles with the Stanley Cup Champs and is partially responsible for the success that both Sophomore wingers are experiencing. These two have certainly gotten better defensively while on the vaunted 2nd line and have been a powerhouse offensive force playing alongside one another. Bergeron doesn’t get enough credit for helping mold them into the solid two way players these youngsters have become. Yes, some credit needs to be thrown to Claude for putting them all together but obviously Claude saw the potential there to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

Now that Ferris Bueller’s Day Off II has been teased it makes us wonder who besides Matthew Broderick will be returning to the cast. This ensemble cast of brat pack wannabes and B character actors have had a fairly nefarious 23 years since Ferris played sick.

Mia Sara who played Ferris’ love interest Sloane Peterson is still sporadically working. If there is a role in the flick for her I could not see her turning it down. Alan Ruck who played Ferris” best friend and later appeared as Stuart Bondek on Spin City, turns nothing down. I don’t think there is a TV drama Ruck hasn’t done a stint on. Where this gets dicey is will Jennifer Grey reprise her role as Ferris’ s sister Jeanne Bueller? Read the rest of this entry »
