Star Wars: The Old Republic Finally Gets a Release Date

Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Bioware-developed Star Wars MMO, finally has a release date, and it will actually be released this year. The Old Republic will go live in North America on December 20, 2011, while Europeans can start playing two days later on December 22.

The release date was announced by Bioware co-founders Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk. According to Muzyka:

“In 1977, Lucasfilm created magic with the release of Star Wars. Our goal is to capture some of that magic when we go live with Star Wars: The Old Republic on December 20. This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at Lucas Arts who have dedicated so much of their lives to building this extraordinary game.”

Zeschuk added:

“We appreciate the patience of the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release. When we launch this groundbreaking MMO with world class storytelling this holiday season, we hope you will agree that it was worth the wait.”

However, preorders of physical and digital copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic are limited, so not everyone will be able to play on the release date. Those of you who think they’ll be able to buy the game on launch and immediately play will probably be disappointed and have to be on the wait list.
