AND THEN THERE WERE 10 Two weeks in a row Country Kristy has somehow survived the axe. Have the horses in Oregon learned to speed-dial? I can’t think of any other explanation. There certainly aren’t that many people there (3,800,000, I looked it up). Certainly not enough to keep her from getting a well deserved vote off the island. Unlike Season Three when the entire population of Hawaii continued to vote for it’s homegirl, Jasmine Trias (who was pretty good and finished 3rd), Country Kristy actually needs to go, and soon. For the love of sugar cubes, take the phones away from those horses!! Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Destination: Mohegan Sun
Beer Destination: Mohegan Sun (March 23 2008)
It has been a while since I have visited one of my favorite drinking holes in the Northeast. Mohegan Sun Casino and Hotel. For those of you that have never visited Connecticut’s most eclectic destination let me describe this wonderland. This self supporting environment has a 10,000 seat arena, an arcade, a modest shopping mall with 40 or so shops, 25 – 30 restaurants and around a dozen bars and clubs. Read the rest of this entry »
American Idol Review - Final 11
THEN THERE WERE 11
I had very mixed feelings sitting down to watch Idol last night. On one hand, the show saw fit to honor The Beatles, one of my all-time favorite bands, with a second night of songs by the contestants. Heaven knows the Lennon-McCartney Songbook is large enough that they could pull this off for several more nights. Read the rest of this entry »
2008 Boston Red Sox Preview
THEY ARE THE CHAMPIONS, MY FRIENDS
The best thing the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox did in the off-season was…nothing. Sure, they got involved in the Johan Santana Sweepstakes, and for a while it even looked like they were going to land him. It might have been nice to pick up the best left-hander, maybe even the best pitcher, in baseball. It would have given the Sox arguably the best 1-2 pitchers in all of baseball with Santana and Josh Beckett. But at what cost? The Twins were asking for just too much in return. They wanted pitcher Jon Lester, shortstop prospect Jed Lowrie, and new fan favorite center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury. This was just too much of the Red Sox’ present and future for GM Theo Epstein to trade away. Read the rest of this entry »

American Idol - The Final 12
After several weeks of terrible song catalogues, sub-par performances, and Paula’s ramblings, we were finally given a real treat last night with the Lennon-McCartney Songbook. The song choices were, for the most part, outstanding, and several of the contestants showed us that they truly belonged in the Final 12. We’ve been hearing for weeks now that this is the best group in American Idol history, and I think for the first time last night, I may actually begin to believe it. Also, the Final 12 have the privilege of Read the rest of this entry »
How to Store Beer
Article from Belgianshop.com.
Beer connoisseurs can spend more for a six pack of beer than a bottle of wine. That is why storing beer properly is so important! Read the rest of this entry »
A night in the kitchen
Ok, so I took a long time off from blogging, writing, etc mainly doing some random beer drinking, home brewing, and of course beer pairing. But this post will be short and sweet until I can actually get my thoughts together and put a more detailed piece for you guys to read.So the other day I was in the kitchen making dinner and I decided to make some roasted pork loin with a Southern tier “choklat sauce” paired with some Brussel sprouts cooked with a little bit of butter and Duvel and some whipped cheddar mashed potatoes. I paired this with a Canadian delight from Unibroue called La Seigneuriale a Belgian Strong Ale and I must say I was pleased with the match. Read the rest of this entry »
HD DVD Review: Beowulf (Director’s Cut)
Never before has the “circle of life” been more applicable to a home video release than it is to Paramount Home Entertainment’s Beowulf Director’s Cut. The high profile HD DVD title comes at the end of the format’s short run and will likely be one of the final films released in “red.” In HD DVDs death, a new life sprouts with the commercially successful use of new motion capture techniques applied to animation the director, Robert Zemeckis, first pioneered with lesser results in The Polar Express.
American Idol: Week 2
Monday ‘Rise and Shine’ with Maggie Grace
On Lost playing Shannon Rutherford, actress Maggie Grace whined, bitched and tanned her way to becoming the most loathed character during the first season’s run. She was the “Ginger” of the show, and even though her character offered nothing to the island’s mysteries, the eye candy she offered will always be missed. Even though Lost treks on into its fourth season without Maggie, the young actress has leveraged the notoriety gained as a castaway to expand her roles beyond little known films and small TV appearances. Right after her stint on Lost, Maggie landed a lead role in the 2005 remake of The Fog, and in 2007 appeared in Suburban Girl with Sarah Michelle Gellar. We passed up Maggie for Rise and Shine last month when Suburban Girl hit stores on Blu-ray Disc. For Maggie, the second time is the charm as she’s scored Rise and Shine honors for this week’s The Jane Austen Book Club. When Lost: Season One rolls around on Blu-ray, Maggie will be well on her way to becoming a queen of high def home video.
The Year in the Brew IV
You would think we would have learnt by now. It was the famous Irish author George Bernard Shaw who said “We learn from history that we learn nothing from history.” Shaw got his start as a drama and book critic for the Saturday Review evaluating the entertainment media of his era.
