lol nah, I'm just fed up of JBs. Also I had my fun with that pickup and it's not something I was looking to put into my strat. I'm taking a bit of a chance on the Wilkinsons since I've never heard them before, but meh. It's something different, designed by a guy with a different ear for tone than Seymour has, so the voicing will likely be a bit different.

and also getting fed up of how like every 2nd pickup SD makes is based on the JB either directly, or based on the JB wind. There are like a million versions of it now.

JB
35th Anniv. JB
Antiquity JB
Distortion
Alt 8
Holdsworth
Eclair
RTM
Concept set
Mustaine LiveWires
HB102
HB103

like hooooooooly fuck, ENOUGH ALREADY, come up with a new design!

I think the StagMag and Invader are also based on a JB coil, no?

It is my understanding that the invader is based on the Distortion which is based on a JB...kinda

Daaaaayum.

shipped on Monday from the UK. Just got em.

That is seriously the fastest international shipment I've ever seen. EVER.

The pups are pretty cold at the moment but they spec out to 14.2K and 7.4K. Can't install 'em yet as I'm waiting for the new HH pickguard to come in before I can mark out the routes I need to do.

First impressions:

great googly moogly, what a good buy that was.

Both neck and bridge pickups are great. The neck pickup reminds me a lot of the Jazz, but a bit warmer and fuller sounding in the mids and with a bit more character. Retains articulation with high gain, and sounds lush and warm with cleans and OD.

Bridge pickup has a decidedly PAF quality to the note attack and the EQ, but it's got more output than a PAF, and a lot beefier too. Clean, it has a nice woody thickness in the low mids. Lotsa clarity/tightness too.

Going to a jam session later today so I'll test it out there and report back.

Also I have yet to get those switches for series/split/parallel wiring. They're in the mail and I'm not sure when they're getting here, but I'll obviously report on the split and parallel sounds when I wire it all up eventually.

jam session was good. Other guitarist friend was playing a '67 super reverb which I biased for him. He remarked that my H&K tubemeister sounded damn good for such a small amp, and really loud considering it's only 18W.

In any case, we jammed out some loud, fuzzy, stoner rock kinda stuff. I put the pickups through their paces.

Everything I said previously still holds true. They are very articulate and have just wonderful note attack. Bridge pickup is very woody and beefy in the low-mids without getting as obnoxious as an Alnico 8 kinda low-mid beef.

If anyone else wants to try these out, it's the Wilkinson WHHBA set.
