I love beer trades! Today’s beer I would normally never have had access to were it not for a trade catalyzed by “teh interwebz.” The new trading partner responsible for this brew, Eric (Beer. Beats. Battlestar Galactica.), assures me that this brew, Hoppin’ Frog Hop Heathen (Imperial Black Ale) came right off of the bottling line and I’m not one to sit around and let the hops fade away. So let’s pour! Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Pope Crisco On April - 22 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Well, its Friday here in the Republic of Intoxico, and time to put the past week behind us, for the weekend is here. My plans are simple and predictable: listen to music, drink a few bottles of beer, try to fit in a cigar, and maybe see a movie or two.

Pandora is queued up, check. A bottle of Big Sky India Pale Ale has been popped and poured, double check. Read the rest of this entry »

Last Night on American Idol: Top Seven Sing New, Then Go Soul

Posted by Neil S. Velleman On April - 19 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Last night on American Idol, the show opened up with a slow motion recap of the last two minutes of last week’s debacle. We got a very quick reminder of the bottom three, the ridiculous voting off of Jessica Sanchez, and the subsequent use of the Judge’s Save to keep her on.

This was immediately followed by Ryan giving a very quick salute to the passing of legend Dick Clark. Then, it was on with the show.

Last night’s theme was the always popular Now and Then: The remaining contestants each had to sing one song since the year 2000 and one song from the soul era, ironically honoring Soul Train and the late Don Cornelius. Read the rest of this entry »

Leif Garrett Still Alive At 50

Posted by Cletus P. Stillwater, Jr. On April - 18 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

I got the sad news today that America’s eternal teenager Dick Clark has passed away. This made me think about the many guests he had on American Bandstand, of course Leif Garrett came right to mind. I checked his website and I am guessing Leif is still alive. He hasn’t done a movie since 2005, but he must be doing some kind of work somewhere. I heard a rumor he is the guy in the chicken suit outside of KFC on Sunset Blvd.  Read the rest of this entry »

Dick Clark Dead at 82

Today we are saddened by the news of America’s eternal teenager Dick Clark. Dick Clark’s American Bandstand brought Rock n Roll, The British Invasion and ultimately Disco in the the living rooms of millions of Americans.

Dick will be remembered by later generations as the host of New Year’s Rockin Eve. For some of us Dick Clark will be remembered as the man who taught America to rock. American Bandstant help give birth to other music themed television show like The Midnight Special, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert and ultimately Mtv. Read the rest of this entry »

Jessie J Has a Wardrobe Malfunction as a Nipple Slips (PICS + Video)

British pop singer and Katy Perry clone, Jessica Ellen Cornish better known by her stage name Jessie J had a nip slip get past editors of her latest music video. LaserLight is the latest release her debut album Who You Are.

Here is a tip for Jessie J if you are going to steal the title of one of the most iconic disks in rock history, don’t have your album suck. I never heard of Jessie J. but in researching this column, I had to listen to two of the worst autotuned pieces of garbage I ever heard. Read the rest of this entry »

Sud Savant: The Lost Abbey – 10 Commandments What a Powerhouse

Posted by Joel R. Kolander On April - 14 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

The moment I saw the description on the label of this beer I was intrigued. “Ale brewed with honey, raisins, & rosemary,” it said. Whenever I see weird ingredients, whether it be in food or drink, I have to try it. Some people travel for their experiences and others hurl their bodies from heights and still others simply enjoy pushing limits in whatever they do. I, in a typical American fashion, consume my experiences.

“You put a raspberry aioli on what?!”
“I didn’t even know you could deep fry that!”
“This is from what country?”
“So the stuffing is inside the sea urchin?”

These are all phrases that indicate I am about to have a new experience. (Yes!) And lest I forget my new favorite phrase, “They made a beer using WHAT?!?” There are some very unusual ingredients out there: cucumbers from Cigar City, watermelon from 21st Amendment, passion fruit from 5 Rabbit in Chicago, hell my friend Keith even made a beer using actual Belgian waffles! There is no limit to a brewer’s creativity and I love to see the weird stuff whether it turns out amazballs or falls flat on its face. That said, these ingredients are fairly unusual, but rosemary is one of my absolute favorite herbs so I’m excited to see how this beer tastes. Let’s pour! Read the rest of this entry »

Pope Crisco: Bucking Bock by Rahr and Sons

Posted by Pope Crisco On April - 14 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Hello fellow craft beer drinkers, I hope life has been treating you well this early Spring.

With Spring, Texans have the coming of blue bonnets, the state flower, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros baseball to cover for the lack of post season hockey from the Dallas Stars, and thanks to the continuing tradition from the German settlers that populated the Republic of Texas in this nations infancy, seasonal bock beer offerings are hitting the store shelves. Already on Intoxico I have reviewed the Saint Arnold Brewery’s offering, and today I have the offering from Fort Worth’s own Rahr and Sons in their Bucking Bock. Read the rest of this entry »

Amanda Bynes Wears a See Through Top on Her Perp Walk

Posted by Cletus P. Stillwater, Jr. On April - 10 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

I think we have ourselves a new Lindsay Lohan. Amanda Bynes wore a see thru top to answer to her DUI charges. Thinking back to the array of form-fitting dresses Lilo wore to court, I can’t say I remember her wearing anything see through.

Amanda Bynes black lace bra is clearly visible in this shot…at least she had the sense to were a bra. Still, this is not the outfit you want to stroll into court in. Here in Yazoo Mississippi we go all out when summoned before the judge. The one time I was in court for allegedly stealing a porno of topless celebrities, I wore my best overalls. I guess I was just raised right. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Exhale Kat Quinn

Posted by Joe Viglione On April - 10 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Songwriter/singer Kat Quinn has a wonderfully compact 4 song E.P. entitled EXHALE now in release. It is a refreshing blend of melody, inspired words and a sincere and impressive voice communicating her ideas.

“What Love Feels Like” starts things off, and it is simply amazing, drenched in the superb production work of master craftsman Peter Calo. Go back over previous reviews of mine, this writer is not prone to hyperbole unless something reaches into the ether and comes up with a surprise, and the surprise is here. Special sounds are what the audience is seeking in 2012, new sounds to dazzle Read the rest of this entry »

I’ll start by saying how great it was to see Arya in more than just a single scene. I missed her. She’s got a nice rapport going with Gendry, who already knows about her little secret but is keeping it to himself. His flustered stammering and embarrassment after Arya reveals her noble birth to him made me laugh out loud. Even so, Gendry’s deference doesn’t last for too long, as he’s right back to gently teasing Arya only a few minutes later. It’s fun to watch them get along so well, but the threatening Gold Cloaks that appeared looking for the boy with the bull’s helmet certainly foreshadows that some kind of badness is going to hit Yoren and his gaggle of recruits. Electronic Arts has announced in a press release that Mass Effect 3 will be getting an “Extended Cut” downloadable content pack this Summer, which will ostensibly improve the endings to the roleplaying game.

The DLC won’t be changing the ending, according to the presser, which states:
